Welcome!
My name is Betzy.
I was born and raised just north of Houston, Texas.
I have two passions in life: animals and photography.
Who Am I?
I'm a 27 year old new mommy and stay at home wife. At 20 years old I married my knight in shining buttons, Tommy. His career in the Marine Corps brought us to Colorado, then the beautiful coast of North Carolina and here we are, back in Colorado again! We have been married for over 7 years and are finally expecting our first little one in late September. In the mean time, our 6 furbabies keep us on our toes. We have three cats, one english bulldog, a rat and a rabbit.
How Did I Get Into Photography?
In kindergarten, my parents got me a little camera and I loved taking pictures with it. I was intent on preserving my precious memories. At 18, I found an old camera in our garage. My Uncle Ricky helped me out with some of the settings and gave me a few books and I was off! I loved my old 35mm Minolta SLR. I could make it do anything I wanted! Unfortunately, manual settings and manual focus are not as convenient as a point and shoot.
While Tommy was deployed in 2007 I met Melissa through a mutual friend at church. We talked a lot, and quickly became friends. Melissa renewed my interest in photography by letting me shoot with her Digital SLR. I fell in love with her Nikon D70 and had to have one for myself. She refreshed my memory on SLRs and continues to teach me priceless lessons about composition, posing, lighting and equipment.
I have learned most of what I know about photography through online courses, websites, mentors, books and just plain trial and error. One of my biggest mentors has been my husband's cousin, Nicole Laurent. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree at the Art Institute and is always willing to lend me a hand or give me great advice! Check her out at www.fizgigphotography.com.
What do I Shoot with Now?
I currently shoot with a Nikon D90 Digital SLR along with various lenses and an external flash. I still have my D70 as a back up camera.
I also have a medium format Kowa 6MM that I'm in love with! I don't use it for shoots, but more for artistic shoots and artwork.
