My best advice is to keep it simple, and keep it “you.” Photographs are a form of art and if you like bold crazy colors, then run with it! If you are a more subdued type of person, then perhaps neutral tones are more for you.
Dress to match the sofa! Crazy, right? Not really. Think about where you want to display your photos. Will the lime green shirts and hot pink bermuda shorts really look that good hanging over your white colonial style mantel? Maybe not so much…
A few more tips for choosing your wardrobe:
- I can’t say it enough, Keep it simple.
- Avoid loud patterns like plaid and logos or words on a shirt.
- Bold accessories can be really fun!
- Collared shirts look great on men and boys.
- Don’t get too “matchy-matchy.” Try keeping everyone in the shoot in the same color range but not exactly the same.
- Cover your legs. Jeans or khaki’s are perfect for photos. Nobody wants to see Dad’s hairy legs…or mom’s, if that is the case!
- Bring props! Anything that identifies you as a family is perfect!
- Do you love to golf? Bring some clubs!
- Love wine? Bring a bottle and some glasses.
- Do you love to goof around? Bring some fake mustaches.
- You get the idea!
